T.W. Dorr Dick, A.L.  (American, 1805-1855)

This is one of the earliest examples of an image from a daguerreotype in a periodical found in the United States. T. W. Dorr engraved from a daguerreotype miniature by A. L. Dick. The popular magazine began to publish engravings after ‘Daguerreotype Miniatures’ in the the August 1842 issue. From 1844 on, a great many illustrations after daguerreotypes appeared in American journals and books. A number of competent artists translated the images onto steel plates for printing, using line, stipple, and mezzotint engraving techniques. [1]
