Eugene photographed Ludwig’s son, Prince Rupprecht of Bavaria, with his wife Princess Marie Gabriele and their sons Prince Luitpold and Prince Albrecht in 1908, presumably in the residential section of Schloss Nymphenburg or at their Munich residence. Two particular features of this series of photographs are the private, almost intimate atmosphere, and the almost complete absence of any kind of royal insignia. Instead, Eugene’s particular presentation of the family emphasized the human aspect. More especially the photographs of Princess Marie Gabriele with her children communicate an impression of deep emotional attachment. [1]
