Plate 4 Bartlett, N. Gray (American, 1885-1951)

Bartlett’s contemplative images of a young woman, generally alone in natural settings. The photogravures are printed in different colors and are sometimes vignette. The hand-lettered verses are accompanied by small illustrations of butterflies, water lilies. And similar subjects by H. Landers. According to the February 1895 issue of The Photographic Times, the book was issued in a box and cost two dollars. This book is charming, but no match for her earlier Mother Goose as the images are printed on a less elegant plate paper.
