La Lecon D’Anatomie, Négatif de Mr. Alexandre Alexandre (French)

Published in Nadar’s Paris-Photographe, IV, No.7, 30 July 1894

This image is a photographic recreation of Rembrand’s famous painting. It is the most famous of Rembrandt’s group portraits, along with The Night Watch (1642). The work represents an anatomical demonstration on the muscles of the arm, by Professor Tulp, in front of assistants driven by curiosity and respectful fear.
