HRH Prince Albert Rejlander, Oscar G. (British, 1834-1910)

Prince Albert played an integral role in the advancement of photography. Alongside Queen Victoria, Prince Albert’s support for the new medium of photography was a cultural and social catalyst – furthering opportunities for creativity, experimentation, and the exchange of photographic knowledge. This stippled and line engraving from a photograph by O.G. Reylander is a fine example of the translation of photographs by traditional engraving techniques common in the 19th centry.
