Considered the first printed matter illustrated by a photomechanical method, in 1840 Joseph Berres produced a brochure on daguerreotype etching entitled Phototyp nach der Erfindung des Professor Berres in Wien (Vienna, 1840). This print was made by Joseph Eder from an original 1840 phototyp print and is bound into the back of Eder’s 1905 history of photography volume.
