This extraordinary network of lines was hand engraved with no tools other than the guide photograph, a hand held burin and a magnifying glass. [1 The image, a full page engraving published in The Century illustrated in 1893 was displayed in the exhibition "The Printed Picture’ held at The Museum of Modern Art, in New York in 2008-09. The print was used as an example of a highly crafted wood engraving made using a photograph as a guide. Frederick Law Olmsted is best known for his design of New York’s Central Park.
