Erste Abtheilung: Malerische Innenraume no. 2 Schmidt, Otto  (Austrian, 1849-1920)

This multi-volume set of architectural photographs by Austrian photographer Otto Smith is an example of the state of the art of photogravure printing. The 120 highly crafted large chine collé plates by Schmidt have tremendous acuity and tonal range, and many are beautifully composed. The photographs depict the traditional architecture and applied arts of the castles and manors in the Tirol region. Among other places, the photographs were taken in Schloss Tratzberg, Strezing, Schloss Campan, Schloss Ambras and Schloss Churburg. Otto Schmidt was an Austrian photographer who was born in 1849. Schmidt’s work can be found in numerous key galleries and museums such as MoMA, the Getty, the Leopold Museum, etc.
