Canon de Campagne de 75 M/M Unidentified

Schneider et Cie, also known as Schneider-Creusot for its birthplace in the French town of Le Creusot, was a historic French iron and steel-mill company which became a major arms manufacturer. This catalog of their armory equipment in 1894 spared no expense in reproducing the photographs of their wide range of canons. Many of the photogravures show signs of extensive hand work resulting in an almost cartoon feel. This is an example of the limitations still plaguing the integration of photography into fine printing late into the 19th century. Despite their illustrative feel, the images are unusual and compelling.
