Bernard produced plates by photogravure as early as 1859. This very rare photogravure of Notre Dame is without the spire that was added starting in 1859. The stereo-positive for this image was made likely made by Ferrier in 1852/53. Bernard may have been a professional lithographer as well. Bernard produced few prints, those currently known are portraits of Madame Marie Sasse, artiste à l’Opéra, Gustave Dore and Mademoiselle Moreau, artiste du Théâtre Lyrique as well as this view of Notre Dame. The Getty has the only other known example of this print.
