Radical for its time, The Mall is perhaps Eustace Calland’s most famous photograph. It was published as the frontispiece in the January, 1898 issue of the Practical Photographer (1898: Volume IX) and the January, 1900 issue of Camera Notes. It was both praised and criticized for the unorthodox composition bisecting the frame with the trunk of a tree.
